This article analysis the emergence of the Jadid movement in Turkestan at the beginning of the twentieth century, its social and political significance. In particular, it focuses on the contributions of the prominent Bukharan Jadid figure Mirzo Sirojiddin Hakim to awakening national consciousness, promoting science and education, and establishing the first national periodical publications.
